The Pike County Commission met Monday night with a short agenda.
There was no action to take during the county engineer’s report, but Russell Oliver did remind the commission they would need to consider whether or not the county should apply for Rural Assistance Match Program funds before the end of the year.
Commissioner Robin Sullivan mentioned he was against the application for RAMP funds because the program provides one-time financing and would make the county ineligible for further Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program Money.
The commission was approached for three items that required a suspension of meeting rules for approval.
The commission approved the use of $5,000 from the county’s road and bridge fund to use asphalt to even out rough patches on three roads in District 6; to create a voting center in Saco; and to approve the Board of Registrars use of already-budgeted funds for publication of a list of registered voters to be purged from the Pike County system due to a four-year span of not voting.
The commission also approved the hiring of an employee for a part-time position that was already in the Emergency Management Agency’s budget.
A representative from the Department of Corrections spoke to the commission during the group’s work session about creating a Community Corrections Program and two developers approached the commission for its blessing to create a mobile home development on Highway 87. No action was taken by the commission on either issue.
It was also noted that 12 timber industry professionals have volunteered to join Commissioners Sullivan and Ray Goodson on a committee to draft a proposed logging ordinance for Pike County.
The next scheduled meeting of the Pike County Commission is set for Dec. 10 in the commission chambers at the Pike County Public Health Department on Franklin Drive in Troy.
