Troy Council spends $2M

The Troy City Council awarded more than $2.3 million in contracts for goods and services at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
More than $1.1 million of that amount is going toward new police and city vehicles that were already budgeted for.
The council approved the purchase of five police interceptors from Stivers Ford in Montgomery at $22,798 per vehicle; three other police vehicles from Ken Cox Ford for $25,998 per vehicle; three black police SUVs from Bill Jackson Chevrolet at $28,455 per vehicle; three black and white police SUVs from Bill Jackson Chevrolet at $29,455 per vehicle; a police K-9 unit from Stivers Ford for $19,315; a tourism department vehicle with leather interior for $25,321 from Ken Cox Ford; two Public Works limb trucks from Ken Cox Ford at $50,328 each; a Public Works vehicle from Stivers Ford for $18,001; a Public Works F150 from Stivers Ford for $21,326; a Utility Department 50-foot bucket truck from Four Star Freightliner for $157,000; a Utility Department 55-foot bucket truck from Four Star Freightliner for $182,039; a Utility Department 37-foot bucket truck from Terex for $130,848; two one-ton Utility Department trucks from Ken Cox Ford at $43,372 each; and a one-ton truck for the Utility Department with no wench from Ken Cox Ford for $41,189.
In other areas, the council voted to award a cleaning contract for work at City Hall the Police Department and the Troy Municipal Airport to Professional Cleaning Services in the amount of $3,798 per month; to purchase new police uniforms from Azars Uniforms in Montgomery at $337 per uniform; to extend a contract to Apac Midsouth in the amount of $350,067 for paving work at Industrial Park South; and to do business with Blakenship Contracting for sewer work near Golden Boy Foods for $755,000. The council also approved a change order in the amount of about $70,000 to alter plans for the driveway at the new Public Works facility.
Also at the meeting Tuesday night, Horn Beverage applied and was approved for a wholesale table wine license due to the company beginning to carry a bottled Michelob cider product that is wine based.
The council voted to declare East Madison Street and McKinley Drive as a major collector as part of the ongoing East-West Corridor plan, and to allow the city’s building official to handle the abatement of weeds at two properties – 619 Pine Street and 105 Henderson Drive – to be reimbursed by the property owners.
The council also agreed to allow Mayor Jason A. Reeves to complete a pre-application for money from the State Revolving Loan Fund and to enter into partnership with Goodwin Mills and Cawood to aid the Parks and Recreation Department in the planning and construction of a new playground near the Miracle Field.
The council will not meet again until Jan. 8 due to the Christmas holiday.
