Published 8:41 pm Thursday, February 14, 2013
Overview: Troy opens the 2013 season with a four-game series against Florida A&M at Riddle-Pace Field. Troy enters the season looking to rebound from a disappointing 28-30 season. The Trojans did make a late season push and won two its three games at the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Florida A&M finished 7-45 last season and are picked to finish last in the MEAC again this year.
The Series: Troy leads the all-time series 27-4. The first game was played in 1991. The teams last played in 2011.
What to Watch: Troy return good portion of last year’s team. However, the Trojans will be looking for someone to step up and claim the Friday night starting pitching role. Junior transfer and Troy native Will Starling will get the first shot at it as he toes the runner for Troy in the season opener. Also, look for first baseman Trae Santos to make an immediate impact in the middle of Troy’s lineup.
Schedule: Friday 6pm, Saturday DH at 1pm, Sunday 1pm
Conclusion: Though this series won’t help Troy’s RPI rating any, it will give the Trojans an opportunity to get their feet under them. Last season, Troy opened with a tough Central Michigan squad and then traveled to Southern Miss and hosted Samford. This series will allow Troy to get into the rhythm of the season without any problems.
