The countdown to the 2013 Pike County Heart Walk is underway and Heart Walk teams are putting on their walking shoes in anticipation of a great time of fun and fundraising Tuesday night at the Troy Recreation Center.
Meredith McLendon, entertainment chair, said a fantastic lineup of entertainment has been planned.
The Pike County Heart Walk is from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. and the entertainment will be from 6 until 7 p.m. in the recreation center gym.
“We are excited about the entertainment that we have planned and the variety of entertainment,” McLendon said. “Troy University Dancers and the Xtreme Athletics Dancers both put on a great show and we are looking forward to having them. The Xtreme Athletics Cheer Teams will also perform and it’s amazing what they can do. On the music side, we’ll have Michael McLendon who is an outstanding country music singer and performer.”
McLendon said the entertainment will be on the gym floor and those who are participating in the Heart Walk will be able to enjoy the dancers and the music as they walk the track up above.
Several Troy University football players will be set up on the gym floor to sign autographs for Trojan fans.
Traci Davis, Pike County Heart Walk treasurer said 20 teams are registered for the walk but everyone is invited to participate and compete for some really great prizes.
“The competition for the prizes should encourage more people to participate in the Heart Walk,” she said. “The number of each walker’s laps will be recorded. The number of laps walked will determine which category of prizes a walker is eligible for. The more laps walked the bigger the prizes.”
Donated prizes for the Heart Walk walk included a Canon camera, two teeth whitenings at Dr. Robert Howard’s dental office, a $150 Walmart gift card, a $50 gift certificate at Home Gallery, a $25 Flo’s gift card, a grill and many more items that anybody would be proud to take home.
Hamburgers and hotdogs will be available for all supporters of the 2013 Pike County Heart Walk.
“Everyone is invited to come out to the recreation center Tuesday night and support the efforts to reduce the number of deaths from heart disease and stroke. Donations at the event will be gladly accepted and greatly appreciated,” Davis said.
