Dr. Johnny Long receives musical tribute

The Troy University Symphony Band will present a musical tribute to Dr. Johnny Long at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University.
“This special concert will be a joint concert with the Pearl City High School band and feature guest conductors Mike Nakasone and Paula Crider, who are very close friends of Dr. Long,” said Mark Walker, Troy University director of bands. “The band will perform some of Dr. Long’s favorite music and will close with the 1812 Overture in his honor.”
The Troy University Symphony Band will present another “Tribute to Dr. Long Concert” at 7 p.m. March 28 at the Davis Theater for the Performing Arts in Montgomery.
“Dr. Long’s close friends, Professor Joseph W. Hermann from Tennessee Tech University and Col. John R. Bourgeois, former director of the United States Marine Band, ‘President’s Own’ will guest conduct,” Walker said.
The Dr. Johnny Long tribute at Troy University is free but tickets are required for the tribute at the Davis Theater and will be available the the Davis Theater box office.
