Just over two weeks ago, the Goshen Eagles run-ruled the No. 2 ranked Houston Academy Raiders.
On Tuesday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex, Houston Academy returned the favor, routing Goshen 11-1.
“The softball gods giveth and the softball gods taketh,” said Goshen head coach Dee Hughes. “We played really, really well this past weekend in Greenville at a tournament, and beat Zion in an area game yesterday. Today ,we just didn’t play our best.”
The Eagles held serve with Houston Academy for the first three innings of the game, but saw the Raiders score four runs in the fourth and three each in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away early.
Goshen’s lone run came in the top of the fifth when Casey Allen singled to center field, scoring Fran Warrick.
“Houston Academy came out today with the intensity that you have to have to be successful,” said Hughes. “They wanted to prove that they were going to hit us this time, instead of us hitting them.
Lizzie Galloway took the loss for the Eagles in the circle. Hughes said that Tuesday “wasn’t her day,” in reference to Galloway’s struggles.
“We didn’t play well today,” said Hughes. “We will learn from days like today and move on. You set yourself up for playoffs by scheduling the best, and that’s what we do.”
Goshen returns to the diamond on Thursday versus New Brockton.
First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
