Mary Evaline Packard

Mary Evaline Packard, D.C., 88, of 510 East Grand Avenue, Rainbow City, AL, formerly of Greenville, passed away at 12:05am on May 16, 2013 at Regency Point Retirement Community in Rainbow City, AL.

Evaline was born in Mercer County, PA on June 16, 1924 to the late Ira Cutler Lackey and Emma Esther (Bachop) Lackey.

Evaline was a 1946 graduate of Thiel College, with a major in Chemistry and a minor in English.  She worked as a chemist for a radioisotope lab at Veterans Hospital in Parma, Ohio.  Later, she returned to school and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1979.  She worked as a Chiropractor in Troy, Alabama until she closed her practice in 2002, maintaining her license and working part time through 2010.

Evaline was a member of the Alabama State Chiropractic Association, a member of the Pilot Club of Troy from 1980-2002 serving as President from 1990-1991, and was also a member of the Pilot Club of Gadsden from 2002.  She was a charter member of the Pike County Business Women and served as Secretary and Chaplain.  Evaline was also a member of the Troy Women’s Club.

Evaline enjoyed playing the piano and played for weekly church services at Regency Pointe.  She volunteered her time in health care, hospice, and other philanthropic activities.  She also enjoyed writing poems, playing bridge, line dancing, and writing book reviews for the Troy Library Newsletter.

Evaline is survived by her husband at home, James Stanley Packard.  They were married on February 18, 1950.  Also surviving are: a daughter – Pamela Packard and her husband, Henry Orphys of Greenwich, CT; a son – Marcus Packard and his wife, Carol, of Glenelg East, Australia; a grandson – Simon Packard of Glenelg East, Australia; a brother – John Lackey and his wife, Elvirda, of Stoneboro, PA; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Osborne-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 73-75 Columbia Ave., Greenville, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm with Rev. Larry Raughley, nephew-in-law of the deceased, officiating.

Burial with committal prayers will follow the services at Shenango Valley Cemetery, Greenville.
