For the majority of the program’s existence, the Charles Henderson softball team has loaded up every day and driven across town to practice and play.
Those days will be coming to an end soon, as the school is in the process of transforming the football practice field in to a new home for the Lady Trojans.
Charles Henderson High School principal Dr. Boyd English confirmed in a conversation Wednesday that the bids had been approved for the new facility, and that construction was underway.
“We are definitely excited,” said English. “The girls have done a great job, and getting them on campus will be a plus for all.”
The trees and bushes are being cleared for the hillside this week, with construction of the field to start soon.
Whaley Construction of Troy will be the contractor on the project.
School officials would like the project to be completed in time for the 2014 softball season.
In addition to the softball facility work, the Charles Henderson baseball complex will also receive improvements.
