Aug. 31 – UAB Sept. 7 – Savannah State
Sept. 12 – at Arkansas State Sept. 21 – at Mississippi State
Oct. 5 – South Alabama
South Alabama visits Veterans Memorial Stadium for the first time and is not warmly welcomed. Troy (3-2) is eying its first bowl berth since 2010 and it doesn’t look like they’re going to let their in-state rivals from Mobile throw any wrinkles into their plans.
Quarterback Corey Robinson has his second big game in a row throwing for over 400 yards. B.J. Chitty turns in a solid performance with nearly 100 yards receiving highlighted by a 45-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
The running game again struggles as Michael Lindsey finishes with 35 yards but Troy keeps things balanced enough to keep the Jaguars honest.
Seven players made 17 or more receptions in 2012 for South Alabama and that carries over to 2013. Quarterback Ross Metheny connects with eight different receivers for 280 yards and a pair of scores.
Troy ices things late with a long, deliberate drive that is capped by a 12-yard Khary Franklin touchdown run.
RESULT: Troy WINS a well-played, entertaining game, 35-17.
STAT OF THE GAME: B.J. Chitty 5 receptions, 95 yards, 1 TD.
