Former Troy defensive lineman Jeremy Elder died from an apparent heart attack at age 25 on Wednesday.
Elder, who was a member of Nick Saban’s first signing class in 2007 at Alabama, reshirted in his only season in Tuscaloosa.
After a transferring to Georgia Military College, Elder had his 2008 campaign cut short after suffering a dislocated right ankle.
He would spent the next two seasons at Troy and would play in six games as a senior in 2011.
Elder, a College Park, Ga., native, graduated from Troy in December with a bachelor’s degree in social science.
Tony Davis, a teammate of Elder’s at Troy, has fond memories of his friend.
“We’ve done so much together, it was always a story or a memory every time I was around him. He definitely had a gift from God to naturally put a smile on your face with his personality,” Davis said. “He was a great friend and teammate. He’ll be truly missed by his family and his extended Troy family as well.”
