The city of Montgomery has been in serious talks with ESPN Regional Television about bringing a new bowl game owned by the television network to Alabama’s capital city according to Jon Soloman of al.com.
According to unnamed bowl industry sources, the game would begin in 2014 and pit the Sun Belt Conference against the Mid-American Conference at Cramton Bowl not Alabama State University’s new stadium as previously planed by the Legends Bowl Group, who is now attempting to land a bowl in Charleston, S.C. the report says.
If the plan comes to fruition, it would give the state three college bowl games on top of the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic (played at Cramton Bowl) and the Senior Bowl held annually in Mobile.
The city of Montgomery has poured approximately $10 million in renovating Cramton Bowl which was built in 1922.
