Suzy Bogguss in concert at Elba High

Country music singer Suzy Bogguss will be in concert on January 9 at Elba High School.
Bogguss is one of the most acclaimed female country singers of the 1980s and 1990s. Her resume includes the Academy of Country Music’s award for Top New Female Vocalist, the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award, six top 10 singles, one platinum album and three gold albums.
Cheri Clark, vice president of the sponsoring Coffee County Arts Alliance, said that the Alliance’s annual calendar of events usually includes four public events.
“We bring entertainment from different genres and we have been looking for the perfect time to bring Suzy Bogguss to Coffee County since 2005,” Clark said. “Now is the time.”
Clark said that Bogguss is well known and appreciated by those who are familiar with country music in the 1980s and 1990s.
“Suzy Bogguss is a country cross-over artists and her music appeals to a wide ranging audience,” Clark said. “She is a very versatile recording artist. Her album, ‘Swing’ features a selection of pop, jazz and swing tunes. She won a Grammy for the traditional folk album, ‘Beautiful Dreamer.’ Her American Folk Songbook features contemporary arrangement of ‘Shenandoah,’ “Ol’ Dan Tucker’ and ‘Red River Valley.’”
In 2014, Bogguss will release a tribute album, “Lucky,” which is a collection of songs all written by Merle Haggard.
Suzy Bogguss is a frequent guest on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor.
The Suzy Bogguss performance will be at 7 p.m. at Elba High School. Advance tickets are $23 for adults and $21 for students. Tickets at the door will be $25 for adults and $23 for students. Tickets are available at The Printing Press in Troy or by calling 334-406-2787.
