Girls: Charles Henderson 39, Northview 8
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (11-2) had one of their strongest performances of the season in a 39-8 rout over the visiting Northview Cougars.
The Lady Trojans scored the first 19 points of the game before the Cougars even got on the board. The Lady Trojans led 15-0 after the first quarter and never looked back.
Charles Henderson only allowed one field goal in the first half. Northview did not score until 5:25 remained in the first half when Ashley Merritt sank two free throws.
India Blakely led the Lady Trojans early, scoring eight points in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Charles Henderson had little trouble holding on to its 29-4 lead at halftime, but the Lady Trojans’ offense did slow down in the second half. The Lady Trojans scored seven points in the third quarter and only three points in the fourth quarter. However, the Lady Trojans held Northview to four points during the entirety of the second half.
Boys: Charles Henderson 49, Northview 71
The Charles Henderson Trojans (3-10) were able to keep it close with the 6A Northview Cougars (13-7) for three quarters, but, ultimately, the Cougars size and depth proved too much for the Trojans.
The first quarter saw little scoring action as both teams felt each other out. The Trojans trailed 6-8 heading in to the second quarter.
Both teams’ offenses picked up in the second quarter. Charles Henderson solved the Northview press and ran out to a 29-26 lead at halftime behind some easy transition buckets.
After halftime, Northview began to push the game’s pace, and the lack of depth on the Trojan bench began to show as the Cougars opened up a 49-43 lead going in to the fourth quarter.
Northview dominated that game’s final frame by scoring 22 points while only giving up six. The gassed Trojans had no answer for the Cougars’ size in the frontcourt.
