Charles Henderson head coach Dyneshia Jones didn’t give her team a fiery half time speech. Nor did she break out the dry erase board to make big adjustments for the second half.

Why not? Because she didn’t need to.

The Lady Trojans rolled to their second-straight regular season area title with a 68-24 romp of Bullock County Friday night at Betty Wagoner Hall in Troy.

Charles Henderson led 17-4 at the end of the first quarter, and never looked back. The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Hornets 24-5 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Jones’ half time speech was short and sweet.

“I didn’t really need to tell them much,” Jones said. “All I had to do was remind them to keep doing what they were doing and keep playing good defense. They did that, and I am proud of them.”

The blowout win for Charles Henderson avenged a loss to Bullock County earlier in the year. The Lady Trojans fell to the Hornets 41-36 in Union Springs.

Jones feels there was a big difference in the two games.

“Our heart was better tonight,” Jones said. “They wanted it bad tonight, and when you want it that bad, it’s hard for the other team to take it.”

Kyra Scott led the Lady Trojans with 22 points.

With the win, Charles Henderson captured the regular season area title, and will host the area tournament February 6-8 at Betty Wagoner Hall.

Boys: Bullock County 63, Charles Henderson 61

Charles Henderson led by as many as 11 points late in the third quarter, but was unable to seal the win over Bullock County Friday night.

Bullock County’s Octavius Rumph hit two free throws with three seconds to go to give the Hornets the lead.

Charles Henderson was unable to get off a shot at the buzzer.

Trojans head coach Carl Hollis said his team has to shake off the bad mindset that has taken over.

“You have to hate losing, and right now this team doesn’t do that,” said Hollis. “We love losing. We should have sat on that ball with an 11-point lead and made every shot count. We didn’t do none of that.”

Charles Henderson will meet Bullock County again in the first round of the area tournament.

John Johnson led the Trojans with 14 points.

Both Charles Henderson teams will be in action on Saturday against Smiths Station.
