For the first time in the 25-year history of Charles Henderson Lady Trojan softball, they will play a true home game.
The Lady Trojans will no longer make the cross-town trek to the Troy Sportsplex on Enzor Road, but will make the short cross-campus walk to Hogan’s Hole and their brand new complex.
Charles Henderson head coach Trent Givens said the field is a great addition to the softball program.
“The Sportsplex was great to us for a long time, and we owe a lot to Mr. Dan Smith (TPRD director), David Dickey (Youth Sports Coordinator) and all the staff over there,” said Givens. “But now, we have a field to ourselves and the girls can be proud of it. We are going to take care of it.”
Charles Henderson first fielded a softball team in the late 1980’s and has been up and down for the past 25 years.
Coming off a Sub-Regional appearance in 2013, Givens thinks the 25th season over Lady Trojan softball will be one remembered for a long time.
“We don’t have a lot of experience,” said Givens. “But we have a very competitive group of girls. I expect this team to compete every pitch, every out and every inning of every game. As a coach, that’s all you can ask for. This group will impress a lot of people.”
Charles Henderson opens the 2014 season at home against area foe Bullock County on February 18.
First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
