Goshen, Pike County and Charles Henderson all compete in sub-regional basketball action
Pike County may not be traditionally thought of as a hoops hotbed, but, this year at least, four area basketball teams are poised to make playoff runs.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans earned their playoff berth by winning the Class 4A Area 3 tournament with a 60-17 win over Ashford. The Lady Trojans have had one of the most successful seasons in school history, compiling an 18-2 overall record. Charles Henderson has won 12 straight games. They last lost on January 10 against Bullock County.
The Lady Trojans will meet St. James (17-9) in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA playoffs. St. James advanced to the sub-regional round by finishing second in Class 4A Area 4.
Last year, St. James defeated Charles Henderson 51-39 in sub-regional play.
The Lady Trojans will tip at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Betty Wagoner Hall in Troy.
The Charles Henderson Trojans will also be making an appearance in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA playoffs. The Trojans earned their spot by virtue of finishing second to Headland in Class 4A Area 3.
The Trojans will take on the tenth-ranked Brewbaker Tech Rams (21-8) who won the Class 4A Area 4 championship. Last year, the Trojans beat Booker T. Washington Magnet School to advance to the regional basketball tournament in Dothan.
The Trojans and Rams will square off at 7 p.m. on Friday in Montgomery.
The Pike County Bulldogs will also hit the road on Friday night when they travel to Daleville (20-8) to take on the ninth-ranked Warhawks. Pike County earned its place in the sub-regional round by finishing second to Barbour County in the Class 3A Area 4 tournament.
Daleville and Pike County will tip at 7 p.m. in Daleville.
The Goshen Eagles will make the long trip to Chatom to take on the fourth-ranked Washington County Bulldogs (20-3). The Eagles advanced to the sub-regional by finishing runner-up to Elba in Class 2A Area 2.
The Bulldogs and Eagles will tip at 7 p.m. in Chatom.
