Goshen head coach Bart Snyder feels that for his team to be the best, you have to play the best.
With that in mind, the Goshen Eagles rounded out their 2014 football schedule recently, and will see three of the state’s premier programs in non-region action.
The Eagles will meet Pike County in week one, Houston Academy in week five and Brantley in week ten.
All three of the teams made the playoffs in 2014, and have a combined 52 region titles since 1974.
“Those three programs are some in the history of the state of Alabama,” said Snyder. “Pike County is getting back to the Pike County we used to know, Houston Academy won eight ball games last year and Brantley is Brantley. They are always one of the best.”
In region play, Goshen will see many familiar faces.
The Eagles region, 2A Region 3, was one of the few that remained unchanged in the latest round of reclassification conducted by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Goshen will meet Luverne, Elba, Zion Chapel, Highland Home, Central-Hayneville, Calhoun and New Brockton in region play.
New Brockton was brought back in to the region after Houston Academy won an appeal to remain in 2A.
“I feel our region is one of the very best in the state,” Snyder said. “Elba and Luverne are two of the top athletic programs in the state. Highland Home, New Brockton and Zion Chapel are great games in every sport and Central and Calhoun are so very athletic.”
