Terry McGhee, 33, says he can’t remember any of the circumstances that led to his girlfriend, Tracy Foster, 43, shooting him in the eye Sunday night.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 911 call McGhee made from Tonya’s Grocery Store in Goshen, which is next door to the couple’s residence.
On Sunday, McGhee told deputies he fled from their home after Foster started shooting at him.
“She shot at him three times and one hit him in the eye,” said Sheriff Russell Thomas.
Investigator Troy Johnson said medics were at the scene when he arrived. Before he could get a statement from McGhee, the victim was rushed to Troy Regional Medical Center.
McGhee, a welder at Smart Alabama in Luverne, was flown to the University of Alabama Trauma Center in Birmingham, where he is still recovering.
“I’m feeling okay, but I lost my eye,” he said Wednesday evening. “I get out Friday.”
Deputies found Foster at her home and took her in for questioning Sunday evening. After her interrogation, Foster was charged with domestic violence in the first degree.
“This is still under investigation. Based on her statement alone, she was charged with domestic violence,” Johnson said. “But charges can change as the investigation continues and when she goes before a grand jury.”
Foster was released on bond Monday afternoon.
McGhee says he and Foster are no longer together. “I’m just concerned with getting better right now,” he said.
