Before making the trip to Lagoon Park for the state tournament, Pike Liberal Arts will, well make the trip to Lagoon Park.
By knocking off Hooper Academy in a tiebreaker, and downing Lee-Scott Academy on Monday, the Lady Pats garnered the right to take part in the state seeding tournament. Pike will meet Glenwood in the first game of the day, and depending on the outcome; will face either Macon-East Montgomery or Springwood in the second game.
“We aren’t nervous because we know that we are already in the state tournament,” said Pike Liberal Arts head coach Allie Park. “It is also a good chance for us to see some of the better teams that will be at state. We get the opportunity to play some really good teams, and I think we will get more out of playing than we would at practice.”
The Glenwood Lady Gators await Pike in the opening round of the seeding tournament, and Park sees the game as a chance to shake some of the demons from the early part of the season.
The Lady Patriots have played Glenwood twice this season, but came up short both occasions.
“They came here this year, and one of their better hitters hit a three-run homer to beat us 5-2,” Park said. “We played up there last week and lost 5-0, but I really feel like we are pretty even. They are really good team, but so are we. The scores are so far apart the girls would be intimidated. I think we have a good of chance as any to win some ball games on Thursday.”
Pike’s opening game against Glenwood is set for 1 p.m. first pitch, and the back end of the doubleheader will get underway at 3 p.m.
