Animal Shelter ‘clearing out barn’ for sale

The Pike Animal Shelter Coalition is cleaning out the barn, so to speak.
The organization is clearing out its “pre-construction headquarter building” in preparation for the construction of the new Pike County Animal Shelter.
The shelter will be built on two acres of donated land at 800 Henderson Highway. But first, the coalition will need to empty out the existing building, said the coalition’s Chris Schubert.
“It’s to the roof right now, full of yard sale stuff,” he said.
The organization holds its annual yard sale on a lot off U.S. Highway 231 near Sears. Volunteers collect and store items for that sale at the Henderson Highway building. This year, the annual sale will be at the Henderson Highway location.
“We want people to become familiar with the animal shelter location,” Schubert said.
The building may be filled to the rafters, but Schubert said he would welcome any additional donations. Items may be dropped off at Sears.
Money raised will go towards the animal shelter mission. To date, the coalition has donated nearly $250,000 in assets and the two acres of land. The Humane Society has kicked in another $100,000.
