TRMC celebrates hospital week

National Hospital Week may be about celebrating all that hospitals and hospital employees do, but at Troy Regional Medical Center it is also about competition.
Each department was assigned an event to host and a theme. Karen Herring, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said this year’s themes are about world travel. She was most intrigued by the Mongolian breakfast.
“And teams get serious about this. They keep all of it a secret and try to outdo one another,” she said.
The week is more than a celebration. The hospital uses it as an opportunity to thank the staff for their dedication and hard work.
Troy City Councilman Marcus Paramore said TRMC was the reason he was still alive. He suffered a heart attack last December.
“I’m very impressed with the level of care that they’re able to provide,” he said. “I know they’d like to provide a lot more, but what they do, they do extremely well.”
Paramore was especially impressed with the care and service he received in the emergency room and the speed at which he was treated.
“I can’t say enough positive things about them,” he said.
Councilman Charlie Dunn also sang the praises of TRMC.
“We do have a great hospital here now … and that’s something to be thankful for,” Dunn said during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Herring started the week by honoring firefighters and emergency medical staff with gift baskets.
The week will cap off with a cookout. Herring said employees look forward to the annual event. Many of them even provide the entertainment.
“It’s just lots of fun,” Herring said.
Last year’s event included a Carol Burnett comedy skit.
“I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with,” Herring said. “But, it’s going to be hard to top that.”
