Troy Pitching Machine head coach Ty Martin wanted his team to play well in the first round of the District Tournament. What he got was something he never expected.
Troy rolled to a 36-2 win over Coffee County Friday night, and seemingly scored at will. Troy led the game 21-0 after the first inning, and never was challenged in the first-round match-up.
“We have a great group of players, coaches and parents,” said head coach Ty Martin. “We work hard to represent the City of Troy the best we can, and I am really proud of how the boys played tonight.”
In total, Troy pounded out 42 base hits and had seven players hit the magical four-hit plateau. Martin said the win was a “complete team win,” but pointed to a couple of players that had breakout days at the plate.
“Benton Dunn hit an over-the-fence home run,” said Martin. “That is a big accomplishment for our age group. Tyler Martin and Malachi Cooper hit some one hoppers to the fence as well. We had some great at-bats today.”
Troy advances to the second round of the District Tournament, and will meet Enterprise at 7:30 P.m. Monday.
