The Troy Belles jumped ahead early and held on late to down Ashford 13-8 in Eufaula Tuesday evening to claim the Dixie Softball District Six Tournament Championship.

Troy tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh inning to seal the 13-8 win.

“I really feel like the girls got more out of this game than any we have played so far,” said Troy head coach Larry Sanders. “If we would have come over here and beat them 15-0, you don’t get much from it. They had to play an entire game and make plays to win. It will help us at state.”

Troy is yet to lose a game in tournament play, having made a clean sweep of both the Sub-District and District Tournaments.

The Troy Belles will look to keep its long winning steak going in the state tournament next week in Enterprise, but Sanders knows it will be tough.

“The competition gets better and better each tournament you go to,” Sanders said. “We want to keep playing well and winning, until there isn’t anything else to win.”

Troy opens the Dixie Softball Alabama State Tournament on July 11 in Enterprise.
