The 1-0 on the scoreboard was all to familiar to Troy head coach Frank Scabrough. Almost one calendar year after falling to Enterprise by the score, Troy suffered the same fate late Thursday night.
Enterprise pushed a run across in the first inning to take an early lead. No one, defintely not Scarbough, figured it would be the only run of the game.
“Baseball is a mean game sometimes,” Scarbrogh said. “We hit the ball pretty well tonight, and played good overall. We just couldn’t get that one run across. Enterprise did, so give them the credit. It just isn’t fun to have it happen like this.”
Troy had chances to score runs, but never was able to scratch one out. Troy had a runner in scoring position in every inning but one, and had the tying and go-ahead runners on base in the final inning.
With two outs in the seventh,Lawson Scarbrough dropped a blooper in to centerfield. Scarbrough’s knock was followed by single to center off the bat of Tyrell Jones.
However, the late rally attempt was put down as Will Reeves was called out on strikes to end the game.
“It hurts right now,” Scarbrough said. “As an adult, you know that more chances will come, but at 13 years old all you see is what is right in front of you. They aren’t happy, but better days are coming.”
