QB battle still not settled as Troy heads to the Magic City

One single question has dominated Larry Blakeney’s media sessions since the beginning of fall practice: Who will be Troy’s starting quarterback?
With the Trojans’ season opener against UAB just hours away, the answer remains a mystery.
The official Troy depth chart lists the quarterbacks as Brandon Silvers OR Dontreal Pruitt OR Dallas Tidwell.
Silvers may have a small edge over the other two quarterbacks, but offense coordinator Kenny Edenfield feels at least two of the three will play in the opener.
“I do believe all three guys have a possibility to play in the first game,” Edenfield said. “I hope I don’t have to play all three, but there’s a possibility they could. I think two – that’s probably the plan. It would be more along the lines of series. I would like to get both in the first half, for sure and kind of see how it goes. None of those guys have had any game action with us – Dallas has had a little but not really per se. Just kind of see how they’re doing. We’ve kind of got a pecking order. All three have done really well, but it’s got its pecking order.”
Troy head coach Larry Blakeney feels the position battle during fall camp has made all three quarterbacks, as well as fourth stringer Connor Bravard, better.
“The guys have all worked – three of them for sure,” Blakeney said. “Connor Bravard is a ways off, but he’s put the time and work in also. Dallas has been here three years. Dontreal got here in the spring, and 12 – he’s been three years – grayshirted, redshirted and this is his redshirt freshman year. They all have got their strong points.”
Troy and UAB are set for an 11 a.m. kickoff Saturday from historic Legion Field in Birmingham.
