Downtown Troy may prove to be the place to be for trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
The Pike County Chamber of Commerce Downtown Committee is making plans to host a trick-or-treating event on The Square for Oct. 31.
Participants at the Downtown Committee meeting on Thursday talked about the idea.
“It is something we attempted last year, if people want to do it again we should talk about it,” Chairman Adam Drinkwater told members of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Committee
Dianna Lee of Troy Bank & Trust will head up planning for the event, saying other locations of TB&T have participated in similar events in the past and that she would like to see an event of that kind here.
“It would be for any merchants in the town want to participate,” Lee said. “Merchants can have an area to decorate, have arts and crafts and candy provided for kids to go around the square and forgo neighborhood trick-or-treating. It is downright dangerous in our neighborhood.”
Other activities suggested include a pumpkin-carving contest, a photo booth hosted by The Messenger, and a costume contest, among others.
Troy City Planning and Zoning Administrator Melissa Sanders said an invitation flyer to be given to businesses that are Chamber of Commerce members, outlining plans and including guidelines for participation.
In other business on Wednesday, the committee also discussed:
Plans for the appreciation/homecoming parade which is set for Saturday October 11th at 10 a.m. The Square will be closed to vehicle traffic for the event.
The first Saturday sale which is set for Sept. 6.
Open house planned for the weekend before Thanksgiving.
