After nearly a year of planning, details are being finalized for Pike County Schools 7th Annual Parent Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Cattleman Park.
Laura Ellis, Banks Schools reading coach, said event organizers met to begin building on the success of last year’s expo soon after the event.
“We want each expo to be even more beneficial than the year before, so we consider things we want to expand and things that we might want to differently,” she said.
“That’s a good starting place.”
All Pike County schools will participate in the Expo – Pike County and Goshen high schools, Banks Schools and Pike County and Goshen elementary schools.
The Troy-Pike Regional Center for Technology will also participate.
Ellis said the 7th Annual Expo would feature 15 showcases or presentation areas where parents can learn more about the curriculum offered to the students and about individual subject areas.
Some parents might to know more about K-2 math while others will be interested in science, the arts programs or Business and Finance Academy, Ellis said.
All schools, grade levels and subject areas will be represented. Each showcase presentation will be about 15 minutes in length.
“Parents who visit three showcases will receive a packet with free educational materials,” Ellis said. “Those who have children both elementary and high school will want to visit six of the showcases so they may get free educational materials for both the elementary grade level and the high school level.”
The Parent Expo will also feature community partner booths.
“We’ll have several community colleges represented, the Armed Service and several businesses,” Ellis said.
“Other vendors will have information of educational interest for parents so we encourage parents to visit the community partner booths as well as the showcases.”
A Kids Activity Fun Zone will give the kids something fun to do while their parents visit the showcases and community partner booths.
“The Fun Zone will be supervised by school personnel,” Ellis said. “All children will have to be checked in and checked out so it will safe.
There will games and activities for all age children.”
At 6:30 p.m. in Cattleman Park arena area, the marching bands from Pike County and Goshen high schools will compete in The Battle of the Banks and everyone will be invited to show school spirit and cheer for the band of their choice.
Hot dogs and soft drinks will be served free of charge. Admission to the Parent Expo is also free.
Ellis said parents of students in the Pike County School System are encourage to mark their calendars for Oct. 7 and make plans now to attend the Pike County Schools 7th Annual Parent Expo from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Cattleman Park.
