Sean Holohan has been named sports editor of The Messenger.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Sean to Pike County,” said Stacy G. Graning, publisher. “He has a solid background in reporting and editing and has experience covering sports at every level, from youth to high school to college level, and that background will translate well to Pike County.”
Holohan is a 2012 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he earned a degree in journalism. He worked at the Omaha World-Herald covering community news and high school sports before moving to Alabama in July. While in Alabama, he has reported for al.com, The Opelieka-Auburn News and The Montgomery Advertiser.
“While I have only lived in the state of Alabama for two and a half months, I can say with certainty that this is a great state full of great people … It certainly has been a transition to live so far from the Midwest, but everyone I have had the chance to meet has been nothing but kind and welcoming to me,” Holohan said.
And, he said, as a sports writer he is enjoying the opportunities to cover sports in the South. “Obviously, I am a huge sports fan. Getting the chance to live in and cover sports in Alabama is the perfect situation to me.”

“I’m still a Midwest person at heart, but I am thrilled to start a new adventure here in Troy.”
