Latora Duff scored a game-high 18 points and Samson ran over Pike County, building a 28-point halftime lead as the Tigers defeated the Lady Bulldogs Monday 56-19.
From the opening tip, Samson displayed their offensive and defensive dominance over Pike County.
The Tigers scored 24 points in the game’s opening eight minutes, while holding the Lady Bulldogs to just two points in the first quarter.
After a 14-point effort from Duff in the first half, Samson entered the locker room with a comfortable 36-8 lead over Pike County.
At the start of the third quarter, the hot shooting continued from the Tigers, who put up 13 points to put the game out of reach.
And just as they did in the first half, the Tigers’ defense clamped down on Pike County, who scored just one point in the third quarter.
But the Lady Bulldogs were not without their runs in the game. The fourth quarter saw Pike County’s highest offensive output as they scored 10 points behind five consecutive points off of Samson turnovers.
But in the end, Pike County fell victim to their own turnover issues, as the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t take advantage of several fast break and open shot opportunities to narrow the lead.
Pike County’s Vaznian finished the game with a team-high seven points.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to the court again Tuesday with a home matchup against Cottonwood.
Samson will continue their road trip as they visit Slocomb Tuesday.
