Troy University has added Charleston Southern to its 2015 football schedule, athletic director John Hartwell announced Wednesday.
The Trojans will host the Buccaneers Sept. 12 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The deal with Charleston Southern comes after Troy University learned their previously scheduled opponent, UAB, had folded its football program in early December, leaving the Trojans to find another opponent in 2015.
The Blazers were scheduled to play the Trojans in 2016 as well, but Troy filled that void last week with the signing of a home-and-home deal with Conference USA opponent Southern Miss.
Troy will play in Hattiesburg in 2016 and host the Golden Eagles in 2019.
The 2015 meeting between Troy and FCS opponent Charleston Southern will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools.
The Trojans have enjoyed past success against Charleston Southern, defeating the Buccaneers 66-7 in 1995, 55-20 in 1994 and 56-0 in 1993.
In 2014, Charleston Southern finished with an 8-4 overall record. The Buccaneers played at Vanderbilt and at Georgia, losing 21-20 and 55-9, respectively.
Charleston Southern, a member of the Big South Conference, is 18-7 over the past two seasons under head coach Jamey Chadwell.
The Trojans add Charleston Southern to an already daunting non-conference slate, including North Carolina State, Wisconsin and Mississippi State.
As far as Troy’s conference slate, the Sun Belt will release their 2015 league schedule March 1.
