Kordel Anderson led the Charles Henderson boys with 23 points Wednesday night in a tightly-contested 66-64 loss for the Trojans to rival Eufaula.
Anderson hit a key 3-pointer to narrow the Eagles’ lead to 65-64 with three seconds remaining in the game, but after Eufaula’s Sterling Hogan sunk one of two free throws, a desperation half-court shot fell harmlessly short of the hoop for Charles Henderson, ending the game.
Jalante Smith and Sterling Foster also came up big for Charles Henderson in the loss, scoring 13 points each in support of Anderson.
The game stayed tight throughout; with each team exchanging leads in every quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, trailing 53-46, Charles Henderson found success with the full-court press, forcing Eufaula into turnovers that the Trojans converted into points the other way.
With under five minutes to go in the game, the Eagles were charged with a technical foul, and Charles Henderson’s Joshua Roberts was able to sink one of two free throws, to narrow Eufaula’s lead to 64-61. But with 11 seconds left, Charles Henderson wasn’t able to convert an open shot under the hoop, and the Trojans could only watch as Eufaula shot free throws.
