A former Troy resident is reaching for the stars for a prom date.
Cole LaBrant, formerly of Troy and now living in Enterprise, is known for making popular videos on the Vine App with DEM_WHITE_BOYZ. Branching out from the six second constraints of the Vine videos, LaBrant recently made a YouTube video asking Selena Gomez to be his date to his senior prom, and he’s hoping the video will do more that just go viral.
“Growing up, I always had a big crush on Selena Gomez,” LaBrant said of the former Disney star who is now a solo pop artist.
If he was going to make a video to ask her to his senior prom, he had to make it worth watching, he said. LaBrant spent 10 days recording and editing the video.
In the video, LaBrant is several scenes such as his high school, the beach and a cotton field. He sings and dances to songs by Gomez, while drawing hearts on the beach and dancing next to his friends.
LaBrant posted the video on Saturday and with within two days, the video had over 176,000 views.
On Monday, Jan. 26, his principal spoke to him, encouraging his actions. LaBrant said that the principal would be excited if Gomez decided to attend the prom, and he would make sure the school was prepared for such an event.
As of Monday evening, Gomez had not responded to his video.
“I think it’s just a matter of time,” LaBrant said. “A lot of people are trying to put the word out,” LaBrant said. “A response would be awesome.” He knows people in the Los Angeles area, and they are helping spreading the word about his video.
He wants everyone who can to share his video on any and all social media.
LaBrant said that it would be understandable if she did not respond, but he would be incredibly happy if she did.
“I’ll probably cry a little bit,” LaBrant laughed. “If [Selena Gomez] were to go to prom with me, it would be something I would never forget.”
