College basketball is still a month away from its crown jewel post-season tournament, but in Alabama, high school post-season play is about to be in full swing.
In all, seven Pike County teams will compete in this week’s area tournaments.
In Class 5A, both the Charles Henderson boys and girls teams will play in the Area 3 tournament.
The boys will traveled to Eufaula to take on Rehobeth Tuesday night with the winner moving on to play host team Eufaula in the area championship.
For the girls, the 5A No. 3 Lady Trojans will host their area tournament, facing the winner of Rehobeth and Eufaula on Thursday.
In Class 3A, the No. 9 Pike County boy’s team will be the only representative from the school with the Lady Bulldogs failing to qualify for their area tournament.
The Bulldogs are the host school for the Area 4 tournament and will face Dale County in the opening round on Thursday.
The winner will move on to play the winner of Abbeville and Barbour County in the area championship on Saturday.
In Class 2A, both the Goshen boy’s and girl’s teams will be represented in area tournaments.
The Goshen boys will head to Elba where they’ll meet fellow Area 5 team New Brockton on Tuesday with the winner playing either Elba or Zion Chapel.
The Lady Eagles will also head to Elba where they’ll take on Zion Chapel. The winner of that game will advance to play the winner of Elba and New Brockton.
And in AISA, the Pike Liberal Arts boys will head to Huntingdon College in Montgomery on Thursday to play Fort Dale in the AISA Elite Eight at 1:30 p.m.
