The Pike Liberal Arts softball team only needed four innings to dispatch of Region 2 opponent Escambia Academy, 16-1, Tuesday night in Troy.
The Lady Patriots began the game by outscoring the Lady Cougars 11-0 in the bottom of the first two innings behind the hot bats of the Pike offense.
After drawing walks from its first three batters of the game to load the bases, Pike’s Sam Yarbrough was hit by a pitch, walking in the Lady Patriots first run.
Pike went on to score four more runs in the first, behind RBI singles from Kelly Grant, Amanda Finlayson and Kayla Dendy.
And in the bottom of the second inning, it was much of the same for Pike, who scored six more runs to push its lead to 11-0 over Escambia.
After the first three Lady Patriots reached base in the bottom of the second, Yarbrough smacked a 3 RBI triple, scoring Kayla Benton, Bailey Rushing and Amberlyn Baker.
One batter later, Danielle Brown grounded out but was able to score Yarbrough in the process.
Pike was able to add two more runs before the end of the inning, increasing its margin to 11-0.
Escambia was able to muster a run in the top of the third inning, but Pike’s offense was too much, scoring four and one runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively.
Yarbrough led Pike on the day with a game-high four RBIs and one triple, going 2-of-2 fat the plate.
Rushing earned the win on the mound for the Lady Patriots, striking out eight and allowing one earned run in four innings.
With the win, Pike extended its winning streak to six games.
