It was a different day that brought the same results Tuesday night as Charles Henderson baseball defeated 7A Foley 8-1 in day two of the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Trojans enjoyed an all-around performance from Chase Hartley, who earned the win from the mound in a complete-game effort and also went 2-for-4 from the plate in the win.
“He (Hartley) gave us a fantastic performance on the mound and he had two hits that drove in three runs,” Charles Henderson head coach Derek Irons said. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more from him.”
After a scoreless first two innings for each team, Charles Henderson opened up the game in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
In the inning, the Trojans took advantage of past balls and errant throws on the base paths from Foley.
“They were really aggressive on the baser running,” Irons said. “That was the best we’ve ran the bases all year we try to teach our guys to be intelligent but aggressive and they did that tonight.”
Charles Henderson followed up in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring a combined four runs to take a comfortable 8-0 lead.
Foley managed one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but that was the extent of the offense that the Lions could manage.
In the win, Hartley allowed one earned run on just two hits from the mound.
Austin Ingram was 1-for-2 with a double and the team’s only other RBI in the game.
Charles Henderson will take on Valley View and Dothan in a double header Wednesday with the first pitch of the day set for 11 a.m.
