Dorothy Gainey was crowned Ms. Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center 2015 at a ceremony at the facility Tuesday night.
Ms. Gainey was selected from a field of nine contestants, who were all equally beautiful,” said Jeanette Dawkins, TH&R activities director.
“We congratulate Ms. Gainey and know that she will represent Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center wonderfully during the year,” Dawkins said. “We congratulate all nine of our contestants. They are all winners.”
Ms. Gainey, who likes to be called Dot, was born in Pike County and has been a resident of TH&R for 10 months.
She has four sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren.
When questioned by the judges as to her definition of beauty, she said, “Physical beauty is what you see; real beauty is what you feel, inner beauty.”
Ms. Ona Myrle Davis was named Ms. Congeniality. The wit of her 90-plus years was evident as she approached the judges with a wave that would rival that of the Queen Mother.
“Vote for me, and I thank you, ladies and gentlemen,” Ms. Davis said, with a smile and yet another queenly wave.
First runner-up to Ms. Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center 2015 was Glenda Horn. Second runner-up was Wilma Garrett, and third runner-up was Anna Ivery.
The Queen’s Court includes Linda Schultz, Mildred Manning, Fannie Boswell and Bertha McLendon.
Entertainment for the Ms. TH&R 2015 pageant was by the Benton Brothers, Alex and Lee. Courtney Brown, a senior at Zion Chapel, was the emcee for the event. Escorts for the contestants were Dana Ledbetter and Veronica Kidd. Judges for the pageant were Ovida Walden, Isabel Boyd, Glenda Fayson and Doristene Sankey.
Dawkins expressed appreciation to all of those who worked so hard to make this year’s pageant a success.
“I enjoy hosting (the beauty pageant),” Dawkins said. “It gives them a break from the normal routine. Everybody wants to be a queen.
“I want to thank everyone who helped in every way,” she said. “Our CNAs, certified nursing assistants, and the entire TH&R staff get a great shout out along with the families and friends who came out in support of their loved loves. And, of course, our contestants. They are what the pageant is all about.”
