Crenshaw County Schools offered Charles Henderson High School Principal Boyd English the superintendent position.

English and Steve Sanders, chairman of the school board, will meet Tuesday to negotiate a contract.

“Yes, we’re in negotiations and I’m very excited that we have started the process. I have accepted, pending the agreement and negotiations,” English said. “I look forward to sitting down with the board members to map out a strategy for Crenshaw County Schools.”

In addition to negotiations, Sanders said English would visit each campus.

Board members unanimously agreed to offer English the position during a special called meeting Thursday evening. The meeting was originally set to narrow down a list of six contenders to two or three.

Once discussions had begun, board members saw that all had ranked English as their top choice.

“He’s a strong leader, loves students, is big on community involvement and, with him being from South Alabama, we felt like he would be a great fit,” Sanders said. “His expectations are like ours. He wants to focus on career tech and fine arts.”

English has been principal at CHHS since 2011. He served as principal for Emanuel County Schools in Georgia from 2005 to 2011.

English taught in Elba City Schools and Henry County Schools. He started his teaching career in 1993.

He received his doctorate in educational leadership from Georgia Southern University. English also earned degrees from Auburn University and Troy University.

English said he was excited about the position.

“This is a great time for Crenshaw County Schools and I look forward to serving the students, parents and teachers of Crenshaw County.”
