The Troy Tiger Shark swim team is gearing up for another summer of competition.
The Tiger Shark swim team consists of four age groups: The 15 and over team coached by Idral Bowen, the 11-14 team coached by Skylar Sexton, 9-10 team coached by Cassidy Gill, and the 8 and under team coached by Nicklaus Chrysson.
The 15 and over and team head coach Bowen is excited for what the 2015 season will bring.
“We are just getting going this season, this is our third week of practice,” Bowen said. “I think we look alright. We are a work in progress and we are doing well.”
The swim team gives swimmers the opportunity to further learn the sport of swimming and be able to compete in an atmosphere not offered at the local school level.
According to the team philosophy, the team offers individuals the opportunity to be a part of an atmosphere that is exciting, so the athlete wants to come to practice to work hard and have fun.
In just his first season as Tiger Shark head coach, Bowen has experienced all the joys and benefits that come with coaching at the recreation level.
“This is my first year. I have really enjoyed it so far,” Bowen said. “I have always wanted to coach, this has been fun.”
During the season the Sharks practice four days a week to get ready for their meets.
The Tiger Sharks will participate in four swim meets in June starting on the 6th, when they travel to Eufaula.
Three days later they will participate in the Andalusia swim meet. On June 18th they will host their own event at the Troy Recreation Center outdoor pool. Troy will host the district swim meet on July 11.
For teams that qualify, the state swim meet will be held July 23-25, at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
