Three-vehicle crash leaves one dead

Troopers said at least one individual died as a result of a three-vehicle wreck that occurred around 5:35 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 29 South at mile marker 167.

A three-vehicle wreck left a Greenville woman dead and five others injured Thursday afternoon.

Amanda Suzanne Carter, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the wreck about 5:30 p.m., according to information released by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Trooper Kevin Cook.

Carter was killed when the 2007 Nissan Altima in which she was a passenger side-swiped a 2012 Ford and struck a 2005 Jeep Wrangler near mile marker 167 on U.S. Highway 29 South.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams.

The driver of the Altima, Kathleen Stephens, 24, of Luverne, was not injured. Four children in the Altima and the driver of the Jeep, Justin Tyler Jacobs, 31, of Rutledge, were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, Cook said. The driver of the Ford, Tiffany Rena Hill, 23, of Troy, was not injured.

Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.
