Troy Dixie Boys, Jr. Dixie Boys advance in state tourney

The Dixie Boys State Tournament at the Sportsplex kicked off Saturday afternoon with a pair of victories for both the Troy Dixie Boys and Junior Dixie Boys teams.

The Dixie Boys advanced to the winners bracket after beating Crossville 16-1.

The Junior Boys followed suit, although in tough game defeating Auburn 10-9 to close out the evening,

In a game that lasted just three and a half innings the Troy Dixie Boys scored one run in the first, seven runs in the second, and eight runs in the third to beat Crossville.

Troy sent six batters to the plate in the first inning and scored the games first run to get things started.

In the second inning Troy sent 11 players to the plate and scored seven runs to put the game away for Troy.

Cody Hollis, and Will Reeves were two of four players in the inning with at least one run batted in during the second inning. Reeves had the big hit in the inning a two-run double that scored both Hollis and Tristen Carter.

The third inning was even more impressive as Troy again sent 11 batters to the plate and scored eight more runs.

Trevor Barron, Clay Barron, Hollis, Carter, Max Copeland, Jade Sikes, Lawson Scarbrough and Toney all scored in the inning.

Copeland had the big hit in the inning blasting a three run homerun in the inning.

With the win Troy advances to the winners bracket round and will play on at 4p.m. Sunday.

The Junior Dixie Boys were involved in a much closer duel with Auburn. In the end Troy came through in the top have of the seventh by scoring three runs to advance into the winners bracket.

After Troy fell behind early in the first inning, 3-0, Troy was able to get a run back as Jackson Blair led off the inning with a base hit and later came around to score cutting.

Troy took the lead in the third inning after both teams were held scoreless in the second. Jaylen Deveridge, Javaris McNair, and Logan Johnson led off the third with hits all three of them came around to score in the inning.

Blair had the big hit in the third with a homerun.

With Troy up 5-3 heading into the fourth Auburn was able to squeeze across four runs to take a 7-5 lead over Troy. The lead would last until the fifth when Troy again was able to come back and tie the game.

Holt Steed, and Blair came around to score the two runs for Troy to tie the game. Payne Griffin, Ty Singleton, both had hits in the inning.

With the game still tied heading into the seventh and final inning Troy came through and loaded the bases after Singleton, Stephen Bryan, and Deveridge, all reached base to load the bases with just one out.

Troy entered their final at bat trailing 9-7, and down to their final at bat. After Griffin grounded out to start the inning, Singleton, Caden Bryan, and Deveridge all reached base and all three of them came around to score when Javaris McNair doubled clearing the bases for Troy.

Blair and Singleton led the way in hitting for Troy, each player racked up three hits on the night.

With the win Troy advances to the winners bracket, and will play at 7 p.m. Sunday.
