The Troy Parks and Recreation Department will begin registration today for football, flag football and soccer.
Registration continues through Aug. 10 at the Troy Recreation Center.
The TPRD will field two football teams this year, said David Dickey, director of youth sports. The teams will be for 9- and 10-year-olds and for 11- and 12-year-olds. Due to the high demand of younger kids wanting to play football this fall the TPRD will cap each roster at 25 players each.
Both teams will travel together weekly and play teams from Pike Liberal Arts, Goshen and Zion Chapel.
Along with tackle football the Recreation Department will also feature one fastest growing sports around, flag football.
“We play NFL flag football,” Dickey said. “We had 120 kids play flag football last year I look for that number to continue to grow. It is a sport that continues to grow every year.”
The TPRD will have four different age groups for the flag football season: 6 and under, 8 and under, 10 and under and 12 and under.
Soccer one of the country’s fastest growing sports in America will continue to be featured at the Recreation Department. Leagues will be formed for both boys and girls ranging from age 5 all the way up to age 18.
Dickey said the variety of sports offers options for players and parents. “We have good athletes in all of them.”
With other sports starting up it gives the athletes he ability to shift focus from baseball and softball and enjoy other sports during the offseason.
“A lot of these kids are great athletes, they excel and whether they choose soccer or football, they will love both of them. We want to give them as many opportunities to expand and see what sport they like,” Dickey said.
Fees will be $30 dollars for one child, $50 for two children, and $75 for three children.
After the conclusion of registration on Aug. 10 no child will be guaranteed a spot on a team.
Parents can register online at www.troyrecreation.org or in person at the recreation offices at the Sportsplex.
