The Downtown Party Series will continue Friday night with the Tailgate on the Square event. This is the third event in a series of six.
“We wanted to have an event downtown for this home game, but we wanted to have the event on Friday night so that it didn’t conflict with any of the events going on at the campus,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy.
Windham said spots are still available for open mic, and anyone wanting to participate can contact her. Casual, a seven-piece band, will follow the open-mic performances. Casual plays R&B, jazz, pop and alternative music.
“It’s more of a concert event,” Windham said.
While tables and chairs will be provided, those planning to attend are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, etc., as seating is limited.
The new downtown shuttle will be in route this weekend, allowing locals to travel from the university to Downtown Troy without having to make the extra stop at the hotels in the usual university shuttle.
The university shuttle has run for approximately four years has made routes from the hotels to the stadium and to downtown on gamedays so guests can easily get to the game and have access to downtown.
“This way, guests don’t have to ride the shuttle that makes the complete route to the hotels if they don’t need to go there,” Windham said.
“They can just go back and fourth from the university to downtown.”
Because all shuttles load and drop off at the Troy University Alumni Association house across from the stadium, the downtown shuttles will be clearly marked so that guests will know for sure which shuttle goes where.
The shuttle will run four hours prior to the game and two hours after, Windham said.
On Saturday, guests will be able to enjoy the shops and eateries, as they will be open for game day.
