‘Pawfest’ pet adoption Saturday on The Square

A ‘Pawfest’ will be held Saturday to benefit Precious Paws Sanctuary. The pet adoption event will be child-friendly and family friendly.
“It’s getting toward the end of the year and winter, and I know the animals are going to need extra blankets and more food,” said Symantha Griffin, owner of Precious Paws Sanctuary. “We are just trying to prepare for this time of year.”
Kittens will be present at the event and available for adoption. The Precious Paws Sanctuary currently houses about 20 kittens that are up for adoption. All of the kittens may not be present at Pawfest, but photos will be provided of any kitten that is not present.
Dogs are also available for adoption; however, they will not be present at the event.
“We wanted to make sure the event stays kid-friendly,” Griffin said. “Parents don’t have to worry about their kids being bitten by dogs or anything. We didn’t want that to be a concern.”
Griffin said that Pawfest should be fun for not only children, but for people of all ages. There will be a bake sale, face painting, corn hole, ring toss, a photo booth provided by Megan Ingram Photography, a gift basket raffle and more.
Tickets for the raffle are $1 each.
“When you buy a ticket, all the money goes to benefit the Precious Paws Sanctuary, and some will go to the Humane Society,” Griffin said.
Anyone wanting to adopt a kitten or a dog will be asked to fill out an application for approval.
“As long as you are a local resident and we know where you live, you can fill out an application,” Griffin said. “Once it is approved, you can take an animal home.”
The Pawfest will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on The Square in Downtown Troy.
“It should be fun for everyone,” Griffin said. “It’s great for the community to have something for the kids and the whole family to do.”
