The City of Troy will continue the Fall Parties on The Square with the Pumpkins Around The Square Fifth Saturday event from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Troy.
Seven organizations will be set up in the center of The Square with booths, each having their own activity for the children. The organizations include Troy Bank & Trust, The Vine Church, Park Memorial Baptist Church, Troy Animal Rescue Project, Charles Henderson Child Health Center, The Messenger and the City of Troy.
“We hope everyone will come and join the fun Saturday,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy.
The downtown businesses will also have booths outside of their shops for children to go door-to-door for trick or treating.
Because the Pumpkins Around The Square Fifth Saturday event is in the afternoon, families will be able to enjoy the event and continue their usual Halloween traditions.
“The timing of the event allows for people to participate, then go into their traditional trick or treating,” Windham said.
The Messenger will be providing a photo booth in the gazebo, as well as hosting a costume contest for the children. Prints will be available for purchase and will be printed in a special section of the newspaper.
The Messenger staff will choose the top five costume winners and will post those photos to Facebook, allowing the community to vote on the winners.
For the second year, Pumpkins Around the Square provides a safe environment for children and their families to celebrate Halloween.
“The benefit of having an event for children in Downtown Troy is that it is in a contained area,” Windham said. “With all the activities in The Square and the businesses downtown, it provides a safe environment to celebrate Halloween.”
The Halloween fun will begin on The Square in Downtown Troy at 3 p.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m.
