The Relay for Life kickoff, sponsored by Troy Bank & Trust, will be Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sweet Rack Rib Shack in Downtown Troy.

The kickoff will provide a recap of last year’s relay to show what has been accomplished and what the board hopes to accomplish this year.

“The kickoff really serves to get the community excited about Relay for Life,” said Leigh Anne Windham, co-chair on the Relay for Life board. “It’s a fun and informative way to let the community know the difference we can make right here at home.”

The board will also announce the total raised from the Men in Pink campaign, as well as recognize each of the men who took part in the fundraising campaign.

“We are just so proud of all of the men that participated in the Men in Pink campaign,” Windham said. “They all went above and beyond to raise awareness for breast cancer. The funds they raised takes us that much closer to our final goal for the Pike County Relay for Life.”

Lenny Trawick will be providing entertainment during the kickoff, and refreshments will be served. Door prizes will also be available for anyone who attends.

“Anyone in the community is invited to attend,” Windham said. “Not only will they learn about how they can participate in this year’s Relay for Life, but they will have a lot of fun doing it.”

The board will have a registration set up so that anyone can go ahead and begin to sign up for teams.

“It’s never to early to start preparing for such a great cause,” Windham said. “Something as simple as bringing people together to walk laps is saving lives.”

The 2016 Relay for Life will be May 6, 2016, at the Troy Sportsplex on Enzor Road.
