Those who are hoping for a Chili County Christmas this year will get their wish when the Brundidge Historical Society presents, national acclaimed storyteller Andy Offutt Irwin in concert Friday, December 11 at the We Piddle Around Theater.
Irwin is a popular storyteller at the Brundidge folklife theater and is back by popular demand. And, as promised, he’ll be back with his Aunt Marguerite in tow.
“Together, they put the merry in Merry Christmas,” said Mernette Bray, a member of the BHS storytelling committee. “Andy was the first storyteller that we contracted when we started the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival 10 years ago. He has been back to the festival several times and has been a featured storyteller at our Chili County Christmas storytelling concert.”
Bray said Irwin keeps his audience slapping their knees in laughter with his tales of his 85-year-old Aunt Marguerite Van Camp.
“He has created several other characters that are just about as funny as Aunt Marguerite,” Bray said. “I’m sure they’ll be along at Christmastime, too.”
Irwin also tells heart-filled stories that can bring a tear to the eye.
“Andy is the greatest whistler in the world,” Bray said. “At our Chili Country Christmas concert several years ago, he closed with a wonderful Christmas story and with whistling. We all hope to hear that again.”
Bray said the BHS Chili County Christmas has become a Christmas tradition for many and the tickets sell rather quickly.
The tickets are $20 each and include a homemade chili supper with all the trimmings and a holiday dessert, pre-show Christmas music by the Benton Brothers and Company and master storyteller Andy Offutt Irwin in concert.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 334-685-5524.
