After feeding 1,000 families a Thanksgiving meal, I Choose Life Ministries is not through with its service for the holiday season. The ministry team is conducting a toy and clothing drive, and the donations are flowing in.

Brittney Peterson said Goody’s provided an incredible amount of clothes and she picked up about 20 toys from the Walmart drop-off boxes.

“Goody’s gave us a lot of clothes,” Peterson said. “They did a clothing drive, but they didn’t pick up the clothes. I got four gigantic bags of clothes from them.”

I Choose Life Ministries is asking for toys and clothes for all ages. The toys and clothes can be new or gently used.

Peterson said she had this project on her heart, and it was confirmed when Walmart contacted I Choose Life Ministries, wanting to participate in a toy drive.

“I had been think about it, and I wanted to do something for the kids in the community,” Peterson said. (My husband) JR, talk to Walmart after the Thanksgiving giveaway, and they wanted (I Choose Life Ministries) to partner with them for a toy drive.”

Boxes are placed at the Troy Walmart on weekends, and will be there until the weekend before Christmas. Burkes Outlet is also home to drop-off boxes for the toy and clothing drive, and those will be collected on Dec. 18.

“I really felt it on my heart to do a toy and clothing drive for the kids and families around here,” Peterson said. “I feel like God wants us to do this. We just want to help those needy families.”

Peterson said that while it is especially beneficial to hold a drive during the holiday season that was not her motive for the cause.

“We would have done this even if it wasn’t for the holidays,” Peterson said.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the toy and clothing drive can contact Peterson at 670-4097 or contact I Choose Life Ministries at ichooselifeministries@gmail.com or looking them up on Facebook.

“Anyone can call me, and we will pick it up and do whatever we can to get it,” Peterson said.

The group will be distributing the toys and clothing on Dec. 22 to the families that have been selected prior to this date.
