The Little Boots Rodeo is coming to Cattleman Park on Saturday April 9 and all cowboys and cowgirls and all cowboy and cowgirl wannabes are invited to “Come rodeo!”
The Little Boots Rodeo is just for kids ages three to 16 and you don’t even have to have a horse or ride one to enjoy the fun and competition of rodeo.
Double R Farm’s Justalil Rodeo Company has been producing the Little Boots Rodeo in Montgomery for 17 years but now has a permanent home at Cattleman Park.
“We are excited to be moving the Little Boots Rodeo to Cattleman Park,” said Nancy Ray, who produces the rodeo with her husband, Randy. “Many of those who rodeo got their starts in Little Boots Rodeos. Some kids that started in the rodeo with us have received rodeo scholarships to compete on the collegiate level and some have competed professionally. We want to see rodeo continue in this area and we look forward to being in Pike County.” The Little Boots Rodeo will feature a Princess and Queens Pageant at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8 with three age divisions — three to seven, eight to 13 and 14-16.
The Little Boots Rodeo will open with registration at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 with the Grand Entry set for 9:30 a.m. Rodeo events for the peewee cowboys and cowgirls include mutton bustin,’ truck race, sheep scramble, goat hold-down, hippity-horse race, boot race and stick horse race. The entry fee for all pee wee events is $5. Junior and senior on-foot events are calf roping, calf scramble, goat tying and chute doggin’. Horseback events are breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending and arena race. Bull riding is also a junior and senior event. The fees are event related.
All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirls titles will be presented at the close of the rodeo, based on the point system for both the junior and senior categories.
The deadline for pre-registration that guarantees entry into the selected events is Saturday, April 2.
