The Troy Junior Women’s League has a long established springtime tradition of donating books to the Troy Public Library in honor of babies born to league members during the previous year.

The TJWL’s Books for Babies program honored a large group of 2015 babies with nine book donations to the TPL children’s library.

“We have nine babies this year and it’s exciting to know that these babies will grow up as readers because their moms know how important it is to spend time reading to their babies. They know, too, that learning begins at birth,” said Teresa Colvin, children’s librarian. “We appreciate the book donations from the Troy Junior Women’s League and their continuing support of literacy.”

The Book for Babies program honors the babies at their birth and also when they get older.

“Each book donated is labeled with the baby’s name,” Colvin said. “When the babies get older and come to the Troy Public Library, their names will be placed in the books donated in their honor and that will be special to them.”

Colvin said each mom selects a book that relates to her baby’s personality. There is almost a year’s difference in the ages of some of the babies but already each one is “personality plus,” Colvin said.

The babies were introduced and presented with the books that had been selected especially for them.

For Caroline Jane Conrad, her mom had selected “I’ll Never Let You Go.”

Already, Caroline is an animal lover. She likes visiting the zoo and playing with her dog. She likes dancing, swinging, playing with friends and visiting her grandparents. Her parents are Whitney and David Conrad.

“I Love You Night and Day,” is the book Joseph Davis Sanders’ mom chose for him. Joseph is almost always smiling and laughing. His likes to swing but his favorite thing to do is play with his sister, Allie. His favorite time of day is bath time. Joseph’s parents are Dana and Luke Sanders.

Chandler Margaret Cole is always on the go so her mom chose the book, “ Babies Don’t Walk, They Ride” for her. She likes going for walks in the stroller and going to the farm. She also likes playing with her brother Witt. Chandler Margaret Cole’s parents are Lauren and David Cole.

Classical music and dancing, top Ann Scott Godwin’s list of interests along with going for walks and car rides. She enjoys visiting her grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles. And,  there’s nothing like puppy dogs to bring a smile to her face. Ann Scott’s parents are Nicole and Garrett Godwin.

“Love is a Magical Feeling,” is the book that honors Brooklyn Rose Brown and she loves magical things, like dancing and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Already, she enjoys going shopping or maybe just going. Her puppies are her playmates. Brooklyn Rose is the daughter of Jana and Rob Brown.

Chandler Marie Barron’s mom chose the book, “The Wonderful Things You Will Be” to honor her. Chandler Marie loves her mom and dad and playing with her brother, Landon. She likes sitting up by herself and also tummy time. Chandler Marie’s parents are Whitney and Jason Barron.

Cars of all kinds and colors are fun toys for Martin Andrew Medeiros. He likes playing with cars and with his sister, Mary Alice. The book is mom chose for him is “You’re Here for a Reason.” Martin Andrew’s parents are Avie and Jordan Medeiros.

“All We Know” is the book that will honor Kinsley Faith Cox at the Troy Public Library. Kinsley Faith likes playing with her sister, Addi, her doggie and her friends at school. She likes to smile, especially during her favorite fun time, bath time. Her parents are Jordan and Paul Cox.

When Lillian Blythe Ward is older, she will recognize her name in “Next to You: A Book of Adorableness,” which her mom chose for her. She likes Elmo, sitting up, eating, talking … and pulling hair. Her dog is a favorite playmate. Lillian Blythe’s parents are Aden and Scott Ward.

Colvin again expressed appreciation to the Troy Junior Women’s League for the book donations.

“Children are the future of our library and we encourage parents to read to their children and it’s never too early to start,” she said. “Reading opens the doors to many worlds of wonder. There’s no substitute for reading.”

The TJWL is a social/service organization. In addition to the Books for Babies program, the League sponsors canned food drives, adopts a family at Christmastime, participates in community activities and events and awards annual scholarships.
