Archers represent Troy City Schools well at State

Braden Norris (264), Kevin Yeoman (261) & Bradley Prestwood (256) led Troy Elementary to a sixth (6th) place finish at the Alabama State Archery Championships that were held in Montgomery on April 7th.
Troy finished with 2977 points, 28 points shy of second place and 13 points from 3rd place while East Elementary of Cullman shot a total of 3148 points to take first place. Other TES archers who placed were Blake Barron, Issac Hampton, Lily Ryan, Beaux Mizell, Kayla Grant, Amya Ford, Colton Taylor, Mario Davenport and Mary Hayden West. Norris finished 14th and Yeoman 26th out of 229 boys while Lily Ryan posted the 15th best score for girls out of 155.
The Middle School division that consists of students from Troy Elementary and Charles Henderson Middle placed 12th of 24 teams and were led by Caleb Watkins (279), Jaleigh Owens (274), Noah Prestwood (272) & Sarah Madison Davis (272). Others placing were: Jackson West, Alex Morgan, Kaylee Mizell, Amber Barron, Fabian Prieto, Dakota Berry, Irene Park and Miles Curtis. For sixth graders, Watkins posted the highest boys score out of 109 and Davis posted the 3rd best girls score out of 61.
Charles Henderson High placed 12th of 18 teams and were led by Abigail Salmon (282), Abbie Barron (278) & Gus Hughes (278). Others placing for CHHS were: Will Worthington, Tyler Ward, Cait Ryan, Lindsey Fox, Kyle Goodson, Gavin Wade, Charlie Rawls, Loftin Worthington and Brandon Cain. In the high school girls division out of 161 archers, Salmon place 15th and Barron 23rd.
In 3-D competition, Tatum Brook(5th grade-female) won first place and Kayla Grant(5th grade –female) finished 3rd in the elementary division while Jaleigh Owens,(8th grade-female) from CHMS won second place in the middle school division.
“All TES, CHMS & CHMS competed at the state 3-D tournament and we feel that had a direct impact for the three girls who placed in that tournament,” stated Forrest Lee, TES Archery coach. In addition, “We are pleased that all three teams representing Troy City School scored higher at the state than we did at the regionals, “On behalf of Coaches Debbie Smartt and Daniel Wyche, we would like to thank our parents, administrators, sponsors and families for their support to our archery program,” Lee said. “We would especially like to thank the Troy City Schools Education Foundation for the grant they awarded to our physical education/archery programs that was used to fund our 3-D targets that we have at Troy Elementary School.”
